Presidents Column

Kia ora koutou and Happy New Year to you all!  I hope you enjoyed the break, took some time to recharge, and are rested and ready for the year ahead.

What a wild ride the weather has been so far in 2023. For those of you who experienced the recent unprecedented weather event, I do hope your homes and whanau are safe. Bring on some summer sunshine!

On a more positive note, our 2023 ILANZ awards are now open for nominations and as promised, we’ve included a new category for Sole In-House Lawyer of the Year. If you know of an individual or team who’ve gone above and beyond, please nominate them. It’s not only a fulfilling task for those who complete the nomination, but a huge compliment to those being nominated. Whether they win or not, knowing their work is being acknowledged and has made a difference in some way, is rewarding. Nominations close Friday 17 March, finalists will be announced in May and the awards will be held on the last night of our 2023 Conference, Friday 28 July, at Trustpower Baypark in Tauranga.

You should also have received our ‘Call for Speakers’ invitation. ILANZ Conference is always striving to better equip and inspire in-house lawyers with practical, engaging and relevant sessions. If you’d like to present at conference, or you have any ideas for speakers or topics, please free to let us know. We look forward to receiving your ideas by the deadline of 15 February 2023.

Finally, check out our latest Podcast with host Anitesh Govind and Perpetual Guardian’s Theresa Donnelly on working a 4 day week, and our new In-House Lawyers Section Manager, Bev Armstrong. It’s great to have a new team member on board.
