About the role
We are currently seeking a Legal Counsel with 3-4 years’ experience.
This is a role that offers variety and a true business partnering opportunity with our senior leadership team across NZ and Australia, key Fujitsu stakeholders both in New Zealand and Australia as well as global opportunities, and our NZ based Fujitsu customers and suppliers. You will be required to build strong internal and external client relationships and rapport by effectively navigating and communicating legal and business risk and remaining flexible and adaptable to solving legal problems to achieve positive business outcomes.
Reporting into our Head of Legal for NZ, you will have the opportunity to grow, collaborate with, and become a respected member of the wider Fujitsu Oceania Legal and Compliance Team. There is the flexibility of the role being based New Zealand wide but with a preference being based in Wellington.
Furthermore, this role will see you be responsible for:
- Structuring and negotiating new business transactions. You will be providing advice and negotiate on customer terms and conditions, providing guidance and direction to Fujitsu stakeholders around legal risk and strategy to ensure the best commercial outcomes.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contractual terms and contracts within a set of pre-defined commercial standards.
- Assisting in the resolution of commercial and employment related disputes/claims and initiating or defending legal proceedings, including instructing external counsel where required.
- Identifying and advising key internal stakeholders on potential and actual legal risks and exposures and recommend appropriate action to minimise risk.
- Reviewing and providing legal advice on media releases and other forms of internal and external communications
- Provide training, advice and guidance to internal staff as required to increase legal and commercial acumen across the business.
- Opportunities to collaborate on global or Oceania specific legal initiatives to create improvements within and add value to the legal function within the business.
About you
To succeed in this role you will have:
- A current NZ practising certificate or be able to obtain one.
- A degree in law, ideally 4-5 years post qualification experience as a lawyer.
- A trusted legal advisor who provides timely, accurate and meaningful advice.
- Experience and knowledge of Employment Law, commercial contracts and disputes would be beneficial.
- Experience of working with and negotiating deal structures, contract structures (terms and conditions) and schedules.
- Ability to effectively influence and gain rapport with key internal external stakeholders and business leaders
- Highly developed and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Team player who is approachable and pragmatic, with personal integrity.
This role is a unique mix of general corporate work to support the business as well as transactional contract law, with involvement through the whole lifecycle of contracts for IT services, including government panel agreements and complex deals. This role provides an outstanding opportunity to develop your skills as an in-house lawyer and position yourself for future career success either in New Zealand or internationally.
