About the role

Created in Christchurch just over 10 years ago, Seequent is an NZ success story and a global leader in software for geological and geophysical modelling, geotechnical stability, and cloud services for geodata management, visibility, and collaboration. Acquired by US stock market listed Bentley Systems earlier this year, Seequent seeks to appoint a General Counsel to lead its legal function and play a pivotal part how they advance.

Seequent is headquartered in Christchurch with a team located in over 25 locations worldwide. The Seequent General Counsel sits on the Seequent SLT and reports to the Bentley Systems Chief Legal Officer, with a dotted line to the NZ based Seequent CEO.

Supported by a team of 4 New Zealand based direct reports, you will provide commercial and contractual information, advice, and direction to Seequent’s SLT, ensuring that the legal risk for the organisation is minimised and all rights are maximised. You will coordinate and manage contractual relationships, ensuring best practice, risk management and that the company’s strategic goals and ethos are well supported.

Your advice will guide big business deals and potential territory expansions. You will be a pivotal contact between the global business and the local Seequent team.

What we’re looking for

· A commercially savvy senior lawyer with upwards of 15 years’ experience

· Strong core of corporate law and commercial contracts experience, complemented by a versatile legal skillset and relevant industry experience

· Prior experience working in a multinational ideal, with organisational savvy and the ability to navigate a variety of stakeholder relationships

· A future focused business lawyer who is comfortable providing executive level advice underpinned by a sound pragmatic understanding of commercial imperatives

· Learning agility and can-do mentality with the ability to think creatively and innovatively to solve business issues
