Our culture is our real point of difference, with access to an approachable and engaged executive leadership team, flexibility and work-life balance. We're a family-friendly and genuinely caring community, who support one another both personally and professionally.

Our General Counsel function enables and supports the FMA in promoting and facilitating the development of fair, efficient, and transparent markets through the provision of holistic, pragmatic and high quality legal and policy advice required by the FMA to achieve its objectives, while also providing independent assurance that internal processes are operating effectively.

Due to an internal movement within FMA we currently have two opportunities for a Senior Solicitor or Senior Adviser to join our busy Policy team within the General Counsel function. You'll be delivering consistent and effective regulatory policy advice and expertise to ensure our development and application of regulatory policy (e.g. law reform review and advice, exemptions, guidance) reinforces our regulatory strategy and reputation as an agile, effective, proactive and respected regulator.

Tertiary qualified, you'll have a minimum of 8 years' experience in the financial services or public sector environment along with an excellent knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to the financial sector. You'll have experience gained in a law firm, public sector and/or corporate environment along with a proven ability to interact with stakeholders both within and outside of the FMA for the best outcomes. Your ability to take ownership and get the job done in a positive and outcome focused manner whilst remaining open to other relevant views and options will allow you to truly excel in this role.

The work we're involved in is as challenging as it is interesting. You'll be joining a team of experienced professionals who love what they do.

We are open to applications from exceptional candidates with a range of experience and a particular interest in good regulatory systems, and the regulation of financial products and services in New Zealand. The candidate providing the most effective team fit will be considered in light of all other candidates and how they can complement existing team members.

At the FMA, you'll be proud knowing that the work you do is creating a legacy for New Zealand. We offer flexible working arrangements and a variety of wellness activities. A strong emphasis is placed on your life outside the workplace, and diversity and inclusion are championed in an environment where we all have the opportunity to reach our full potential.
