About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join the Legal team here at Callaghan Innovation.

The Finance & Legal business unit consists of our Finance, Legal, Procurement, Strategy and National Science Challenge functions. The team supports Callaghan Innovation's success by ensuring we have the support and resources needed to deliver value and a high-quality experience to our customers.

As a Legal Counsel, you will be reporting to and working closely alongside the Chief Legal Advisor as well as working across the organisation providing timely and accurate legal advice that is aligned with Callaghan Innovation's strategic objectives. You will assist with contract reviews, advise on grants & funding, answer commercial legal queries and work closely with our procurement team. You will be responsible for leading and delivering our privacy and OIA programmes of work, and assisting with governance and compliance matters.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have;

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with a current NZ Practicing Certificate.
  • 3-5 years PQE (post qualification experience) in a leading New Zealand law firm and/or in-house environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders.
  • An agile, innovative and growth mindset.
  • An ability to effectively manage, prioritise and plan your own workload.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across the organisation.
