Graduate Solicitor

  • Six months Fixed Term or Secondment opportunity
  • Supporting the Ministry with business-wide legal services

As recent law graduate, you will be looking for an opportunity to join a high performing team which influences business outcomes, provides advice and ensures accurate support for our Ministry, our public sector obligations and the support of Pacific programmes and performance.  You will be part of a growing Ministry that provides meaningful and impactful outcomes to our Pacific people across Aotearoa and will help deliver legal advice around contracts, OIAs, privacy documents and risk. You will stay informed with current and future legislation and be a key support to the legal team and wider organisation. 
 
To be successful in this role you will bring:
  • An understanding of delivering legal advice, particularly in New Zealand’s public sector
  • An agile approach to supporting your colleagues in the legal team
  • Curiosity, ambition and an interest in offering end-to-end legal advice
  • The ability to contribute to Ministry-wide legal talanoa – particularly around procurement, Ministerial and Finance.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills which allows for Ministry teams to understand and implement the legal advice being offered
  • Strong relationship skills – taking a collectively, collaboration and partnership approach to supporting the business with legal requirements on any work required.
  • An LLB and admission as a solicitor in New Zealand
