General Counsel – Queenstown Lakes District Council - Queenstown

We have a truly unique opportunity for a talented and passionate individual to lead the delivery of legal services to a dynamic and evolving Council and the communities it serves and protects.


The General Counsel will lead a small and highly effective team, committed to the delivery of quality outcomes.  Maintaining and building on the strong culture within the team and across the Council is critical.


You may be an emerging leader looking for the next step up in your career journey, or a seasoned practitioner wanting to make a real difference in a nationally significant location.


You will be exposed to a wide range of interesting and challenging work, delivered internally and through a strong external panel.    This is a hands-on role and requires someone well versed in corporate law, construction, RMA and litigation.  The successful candidate will need a good balance of academic and emotional intelligence.



  • 10+ years’ experience
  • Excellent oral presentation skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Confident, with the ability to build, maintain and leverage relationships at all levels
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including development of team members
  • Experience working in the RMA space
  • NZ Practicing certificate required.
