From the President - March
Kia ora koutou
Welcome to the March edition of the Insider. Summer might be fading, but we still have plenty to look forward to! Top of mind from my perspective is ILANZ Conference 2021. The team has developed an incredible programme and lineup of speakers this year, and the theme is Tūhura | Discover. Conference is a fantastic opportunity for us to come together and discover new connections, ideas and knowledge. I can’t wait to welcome you to Wellington and Te Papa for this year’s event.
Your chance to help us do something big for mental health in the legal profession
Life Squared Trust has commissioned a major study of mental health in the New Zealand legal profession and is inviting lawyers from across New Zealand to participate. It won’t take much of your time, but could have a big impact on how we understand and address mental health in the legal profession. The trust was established in honour of Wotton + Kearney partner Andrew McIntyre, who took his own life in 2016 after a long battle with depression. You can check out my LinkedIn post for more information and a personal message from Andrew’s family and friends. Please register to participate at http://bit.ly/LifeSquaredTrustStudy by the deadline of Sunday 28 March (it takes less than a minute!). Thank you in advance for supporting this important work.
ILANZ Conference 2021
We understand training budgets might be tight, so once again we have a few complimentary conference registrations up for grabs. Tell us why you want to come to conference – whether it’s a short paragraph, video, PowerPoint presentation, poem or song, we would love to hear from you. For more information, click here or contact ILANZ at [email protected].
Also in this Insider, you’ll get to learn a bit about Jehan Casinader – an award-winning journalist, author and mental health advocate. Jehan is one of our keynote speakers at conference and we’re so excited to have him join us for his keynote address entitled “The Power of Stories”.
ILANZ awards 2021
Has your team or a colleague done some amazing work that you think needs recognition? Want a $5,000 boost to your training budget? The past year has been tough on everyone, but from it has come some fantastic stories of leadership, innovation, and resilience. We want to shine a spotlight on the teams and individuals excelling in the in-house legal space. This year, we’ve extended the awards eligibility period so that it covers projects and work completed between April 2019 and May 2021, so you won’t miss out! Make sure you get your nominations in by the deadline of Friday 16 April. To find out more and enter on the ILANZ website.
Law Society Mentoring Programme
ILANZ often receives enquiries about mentoring for in-house lawyers. This is not something that we offer, however the Law Society Mentoring Programme is a national programme that is open to all lawyers – including in-house lawyers. You can learn more and sign up via the Law Society website.
This month there are a number of great CPD opportunities available:
