About the opportunity:
We’re looking for an experienced Trade Mark Paralegal to join our in-house team on a 12 month fixed term contract. Working as a member of the Fonterra Legal Team, you will be responsible for the trade mark, design, copyright and domain name portfolio, managing the day to day delivery of trade mark management services to Fonterra stakeholders and external counsel.
This is a specialised role where you will provide advice and guidance to the entire Fonterra global business, in regard to trade marks, designs, copyright and domain names. You’ll also prepare and propose global trade mark filing programmes and related advice to stakeholders and Fonterra Global Legal Team members.
Along with your strong knowledge and a working understanding of the intellectual property laws of New Zealand, including the Trade Marks Act, Copyright Act and Fair Trading Act, you will provide decisive assessments of incoming IP matters including trade marks, copyright, get-up (packaging), domain names and IP infringement related issues.
A few other responsibilities will include:
- Provide trade mark, designs and copyright freedom to operate and search advice to the business. Work closely with our external providers and also independently. Manage and report outcomes to the business.
- Maintain a global portfolio of over 5000 registered trade marks, designs and copyrights and ensure all renewals are in place.
- Receive and provide IP review of new packaging SKUs within the business.
About you:
We’re looking for a Trade Mark Paralegal, or early career Trade Mark Attorney, whose expertise will help ensure the protection of Fonterra products and brands.
Along with your strong business acumen and excellent written and verbal communication skills, you’ll easily build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
To perform well in this busy and challenging role, you will be comfortable working in a high-volume complex organisation and be adept at prioritising and juggling multiple priorities. The ability to think laterally and dynamically would be an advantage in this role.
Experience in trade mark prosecution, trade mark searching and assessment, product clearance and IP is essential to your success in this role.
