Our Legal Services team is proud to play a significant role in working to make Auckland the world's most liveable city and delivering Aucklander's great value for money. We are seeking someone who can demonstrate a sound understanding of local government law and law relevant to the regulatory area of practice.

 

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Provide professionally sound and technically robust legal research and advice, as directed by the Manager and other team leaders, and with a level of supervision appropriate to the nature of the work and the level of experience of the solicitor

We are looking for candidates who can represent Auckland Council in various courts, tribunals or other hearings on regulatory matters including under the Resource Management Act 1991, Building Act 2004 and the Local Government Acts 1974 and 2002. Those who can act in accordance with the professional duties and obligations of a solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and abide by the Code of Ethics of the New Zealand Law Society.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You must have a tertiary qualification in law, have current practising certificate and work experience in local government and/or relevant area of practice preferred but not essential. Other skills we’re looking for is someone who can present high quality legal work and possess the ability to present advice to clients confidently, concisely and accurately.

We are also looking for sound analytical and decision-making skills and the ability to consider legal issues and strategy in the wider Council context. If you have a successful track record of delivering customer focused solutions that address underlying needs and broader relevant goals and objectives in a regulatory environment, then this could be the role for you.
