Our General Counsel function enables and supports the FMA in promoting and facilitating the development of fair, efficient, and transparent markets through the provision of holistic, pragmatic and high quality legal and policy advice required by the FMA to achieve its objectives, while also providing independent assurance that internal processes are operating effectively.
Due to an internal promotion, we currently have an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor or Senior Adviser to join our busy Policy team within the General Counsel function. You'll be delivering consistent and effective regulatory policy advice and expertise to ensure our development and application of regulatory policy (e.g. law reform review and advice, exemptions, guidance) reinforces our regulatory strategy and reputation as an agile, effective, proactive and respected regulator.
We are open to applications from candidates with a range of experience and a particular interest in good regulatory systems, and the regulation of financial products and services in New Zealand. Tertiary qualified, you'll have a minimum of 8 years' experience with an excellent knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to the financial sector. You'll have experience gained in either a law firm, public sector and/or corporate environment along with a proven ability to interact with stakeholders both within and outside of the FMA for the best outcomes. Your ability to take ownership and get the job done in a positive and outcome focused manner whilst remaining open to other relevant views and options will allow you to truly excel in this role.
