Mo tenei turana mahi - About this role
The Scheme Legal team is part of the larger ACC Legal function. We advise on complex strategic and operational matters relating to the running of the Scheme. We are looking for a passionate public lawyer, who is comfortable advising in a large Crown Entity with a range of stakeholders. In this role, you will advise on ACCs legislative functions (including cover, entitlements and the management of the scheme), ACCs public law obligations (including scope and lawful exercise of Crown Entity powers, and wider issues such as privacy, official information, human rights, and the application of Te Tiriti) and policy development and legislative changes.
Given the breadth and complexity of our work, we are looking for someone with exceptional communication skills, who can build strong relationships and work collaboratively. Ko wai koe - About you
To succeed in this role, you'll have:
- knowledge of ACC, public sector legislation, and the wider system within which ACC operates
- knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti as it applies in the public sector
- proven ability to interpret complex legislation and synthesise it so it can be easily translated, understood, and operationalised
- strong experience and confidence engaging, influencing, and advising at senior leadership levels as well as the skills and ability to work with diverse teams and people organisation wide
- high levels of customer focus, initiative, and self-motivation
- excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- an awareness of issues related to people with disabilities and experience working in an environment requiring cultural and social awareness
- a tertiary qualification in law with eight to ten years post qualification experience
- a current New Zealand Law Society practicing certificate, or eligibility to hold one.

The base salary range for this role is approximately $114k $160k with 9% superannuation and flexible working conditions.
