Senior Legal Counsel

  • Lead major property and development projects
  • Trusted advisor to senior leaders
  • Flexible, hybrid working options

Here is a rare opportunity for an experienced property lawyer to supercharge their career in a growing and meaningful industry.

About the role

With head offices in Auckland’s CBD, our client is an iconic New Zealand brand looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their collaborative in-house team.

Reporting to an accomplished General Counsel, this role has a strong emphasis on property and development, including construction contracts, leasing, procurement, and supplier agreements, while also offering exposure to broader corporate and commercial projects. It’s an excellent opportunity for a senior legal professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with practical business insight.  You may be moving from another inhouse role or taking the first step inhouse from private law firm practice.

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re a solutions-focused, commercially minded lawyer who enjoys partnering with the business, influencing decisions, and managing risk with confidence. As part of a high-performing legal team, you’ll contribute to knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and the development of legal capability across the organisation.

This is a full-time position with flexibility to work from home, offering the chance to make a real impact within an organisation that’s shaping the future of healthcare and wellbeing in Aotearoa.

What we’re looking for:

  • This role will suit an accomplished lawyer with at least 10 years’ relevant experience working in law firms and/or in-house
  • Good quality experience in general property law including development projects and/or construction law
  • A broader background and interest in corporate, or commercial law advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic and commercially sound advice.
  • Responsive and results-focused, with a positive attitude and excellent communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to connect and build trust with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

What’s on offer

  • Competitive remuneration and benefits
  • Flexible working, including the ability to work from home up to 3 days per week
  • Comprehensive wellbeing & broader benefits programme
  • A supportive, inclusive culture that values collaboration, excellence, and long-term impact
