We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Solicitor to join the Legal Commercial team, which sits in our General Counsel group. This newly created role offers breadth and complexity, and the opportunity to advise on issues that matter for all New Zealanders.
About the role:
The Principal Solicitor – Legal Commercial plays a critical role advising on complex strategic and operational commercial legal and contracting matters, as well as leading on key commercial projects across the team. Some of the projects this role may work on include the implementation of ACC’s Health Sector Strategy and Whāia Te Tika (ACC’s Māori Strategy). As well as coaching and mentoring within the team, this role works with a range of passionate and skilful experts across the organisation and externally.
About you:
You will have experience from a complex environment and be able to lead initiatives for continuous improvement of decision making on all aspects of industry best practice. You will be skilled at providing strategic and operational commercial legal and contracting advice. Your curious, collaborative and inclusive style will enable you to be a key contributor in the team and form partnerships across ACC to enable the provision of high-quality trusted advice and successful project delivery. You will have an understanding of Te Tiriti and the knowhow to consider how it applies to your work. Experience in Kaupapa Māori and health services is preferred, however a desire to develop further in this will be supported. Experience in highly regulated industries such as insurance, or Crown Entities would also be an advantage.
What we need from you to be successful in the role:
· Significant post qualification experience and a current New Zealand practising certificate.
· Proven commercial partnering, contracting and legal advisory experience.
· Experience working with Māori and with the Treaty of Waitangi principles of Partnership, Participation and Protection.
· Experience leading strategically on key projects through to delivery.
· The ability to robustly apply public sector disciplines as well as business and commercial nous.
· Strong experience and confidence engaging, influencing, and advising at senior leadership levels as well as the skills and ability to work with diverse teams and people organisation wide.
· Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring
· An ability to think creatively to provide innovation and insightful solutions.
· An awareness of issues related to people with disabilities and experience working in an environment requiring cultural and social awareness.
