Legal Counsel - Tegel Foods - Auckland

Reporting into our CFO, we have an exciting and rare opportunity for Legal Counsel to join our small and well-established legal team based in Newmarket. In this role, you will provide broad legal advice across the organisation to help Tegel achieve high quality commercial outcomes that align with strategic objectives and position our organisation for success.

You might be a senior solicitor working in a medium to large law firm who has experience working in-house, or you might be working in-house already and looking for greater challenge or autonomy. If you have a strong legal background, you have excellent business acumen, and you’re looking for your next challenge, this is an excellent opportunity to work for a leading company in a large and complex environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide pragmatic, commercially savvy legal advice across the business, working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of documentation including corporate and commercial contracts, property transactions, leases, policies, and contract templates.
  • Provide strategic advice to resolve disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Lead and manage project work.
  • Support the CFO with corporate governance and company secretarial requirements.
  • Engage and work alongside external legal counsel

 

The ideal candidate:

  • At least 6 years’ PQE in general corporate/commercial law working in-house, or at a medium to large law firm. Secondment opportunities to work in-house would also be relevant.
  • Extensive experience drafting and negotiating a wide range of corporate and commercial contracts and other legal documentation
  • Exposure to either/or food legislation / commercial property / OIO / dispute resolution / competition / IP experience (would be helpful)
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) including the ability to build relationships and liaise with a wide variety of people at all levels across different functions
  • Highly organised and adept at managing various stakeholder interests and competing deadlines
  • Must hold (or be eligible for) a NZLS practicing certificate.
