Legal Counsel - EROAD - Auckland

Our legal team is highly engaged and has strong relationships across the business. We are intimately involved in enabling our teams to achieve their goals and we are frequently engaged in novel issues.

Having recently completed New Zealand’s largest merger of technology companies, EROAD is looking to appoint an in-house Legal Counsel to assist the company to meet its ambitious strategic and commercial goals.

 

The Role

You will work as an integrated part of the Legal Team to help drive strategic initiatives for EROAD globally and provide support on global matters that impact each of our regions. This will include:

  • Reviewing, negotiating and drafting key legal documents, such as supplier, customer, data sharing, software development, reseller, trial, marketing and other agreements;
  • Supporting the business’s privacy and risk functions, including compliance with privacy laws in NZ, Australia and the US;
  • Keeping abreast of market developments and changes in law impacting regional activities;
  • Driving and managing projects within the legal team to improve operational efficiency, providing training and enabling compliance;
  • Coaching and mentoring more junior members of the legal team;
  • Assisting with any M&A activity, as required;
  • Assisting with investigating and responding to enquiries from law enforcement agencies and regulators;
  • Providing advice to senior managers on legal aspects of their defined areas (e.g. sales, product, customer experience, engineering, global operations). osition is based in Albany, Auckland (with the flexibility to work from home in the current environment).

 

The role requires good judgment, a self-starter attitude, quick thinking and a keen interest in learning about new technologies and areas of the law.

This position is based in Auckland and you can choose to work either from our Newmarket or Albany offices and will have flexibility to work from home.

 

Requirements

  • Degree qualified with excellent academic credentials from a recognised law school
  • 5+ years PQE, either inhouse or in private practice, with a focus on commercial and technology contracts
  • Holds or is applying for a current practicing certificate
  • Experience working with other legal jurisdictions, including the US and Australia
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and make sound judgments under tight deadlines
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on projects in other areas
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft tools (Office) and exposure to digital platforms.
