About the role
Based in their modern well-equipped Auckland Head Office the Legal Counsel – Corporate & Commercial will report to the GM Legal & Company Secretary.
You will be a member of NZME’s small, but mighty, Legal Team, assisting in the provision of legal advice across the NZME Group in the day to day running and continued success of NZME and achievement of NZME’s strategic priorities. You will use your legal skills to provide advice to assist with management of litigation and complaints and work in partnership with internal business units and designated external legal providers to protect NZME’s legal position.
You will use your expertise to provide advice across the business, including in relation to media law and intellectual property matters, and to review, draft and negotiate contracts, and provide advice in relation to contracts and preparation of terms and conditions to meet the legal and commercial requirements of the NZME Group.

What we’re looking for
- A lawyer with at least 5 years’ top quality post-admission experience who holds or is entitled to hold a current NZ legal practising certificate - inhouse legal experience is preferred but not essential
- Strong contracts knowledge with a background in commercial, privacy, media and/or IP law
- An effective listener and confident communicator with great negotiation skills and ability to build constructive relationships
- Level headed with a strong commitment to professional and personal excellence
