ABOUT THE ROLE

The Legal Counsel is a key member of the Legal and Compliance team and supports the strategic requirements of the business whilst having responsibility for assisting with legal matters across both Australia and New Zealand. Duties will include (but not limited to) -

  • Providing high quality independent legal services support to the Custom Fleet New Zealand and Australian businesses and managing all aspects of legal risks including the provision of legal advice, contract negotiation and the instruction of external legal providers 
  • This includes the provision of day-to-day advice on customer and supplier transactions, advising on regulatory requirements, providing advice on development of new products or initiatives, reviewing customer communications and marketing materials 
  • Advising on legal issues and considering the strategic importance, degree of risk and resource restraints
  • Reviewing and managing legal compliance and training frameworks 
  • Drafting, reviewing, and managing legal precedents 
  • Assess and advise on the impact of regulation on the business’s processes to ensure continuous compliance
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including senior management, Sales, Finance and other operational teams to implement changes brought about by regulatory requirements
  • Maintain and update policies and procedures affecting legislative and regulatory compliance

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will portray the following – 

  • Law degree 
  • Current New Zealand legal practitioner’s practising certificate 
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification experience gained in a major law firm and/or in-house role 
  • Ability to give accurate, commercial, and timely legal advice 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated commercial orientation and business acumen 
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Strong team player
