About the role
As Head of Legal your primary purpose is to provide legal oversight across the business in this pivotal role. Working as part of an intimate business (40 or so employees), you will partner with those who require support and provide right sized, risk based legal and commercial guidance and related services.
The role will bring a breadth of experience as the sole in-house legal position. You need not be an expert in all areas as the business works closely with a range of external legal providers.
The role is challenging and sits across a wide variety of business units, requiring a broad range of advice to be given. This role will suit someone who enjoys a breadth of work, working with others and having an eye for creating value through having exposure across the entire business. It offers an opportunity to have a broad practice and provide value to partners through legal and commercial support.
This is a full-time permanent position based in Auckland CBD. Part time (4 days a week) will be considered for the right candidate.
What we’re looking for
- A smart savvy lawyer with approximately 5 - 10 years’ PQE (maybe more!) in private practice and/or inhouse
- Understanding of commercial realities, and well developed business acumen
- Experience in corporate, commercial, property or regulatory work
- Demonstrated success in applying influence and/ or negotiating to achieve a win/win outcome
- Ability to think strategically and cope with business complexity
- Energy or utilities or comparable industry knowledge and experience is an advantage but not essential
