GM Governance & Legal - Sagely - Hamilton

Te Whakakitenga o Waikato Inc represents the collective assets of the iwi, Waikato-Tainui.  Representing statutory rights and interests, the incorporated society ensures the benefit of the crown settlement continues to grow for future generations.  This is achieved through a range of initiatives with the aim to grow a prosperous, healthy, vibrant, innovative and culturally strong iwi, of which Waikato-Tainui plays a fundamental role.  This is an organisation with strong values and a real purpose at its core.

The Governance and Legal Team is responsible for ensuring robust, high-quality governance and legal support across all teams; this includes support and advice to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Chairs of the relevant Trusts.  Reporting to the CEO, this role is highly strategic in nature with control and oversight of the strategy for the Trusts, ensuring teams are delivering to action plans.  You will facilitate the interactions of all stakeholders to make sure a variety of viewpoints are expressed, as well as reviewing commercial and investment proposals from time to time.  Importantly you will also ensure that the Trusts, and other Iwi entities, receive robust, high quality governance support; you will oversee all operational and governance policies from development through to monitoring compliance.

This is a highly visible role where you will need to respond proactively to the demands and pressures of working in an iwi environment, and you must be able to understand the difference between Governance and Management.  To be effective, you will need to be a confident public speaker and leader, with strong writing and editing skills.  You will come from a robust legal background and have a critical understanding of policy, risk and compliance.  These collective skills and experience will mean that you will also be able to bring additional value to thinking about how best to future proof the function through innovation and process improvement.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a strategic leadership role in an organisation that is full of passion and purpose.  To find out more call Louise McLean at Sagely for a confidential discussion on 027 247 9393 or apply online.

Please note that CVs should be in MS-Word format where possible.  Also, due to current border restrictions, you must already hold a NZ Passport or valid working visa to be considered for this role.
