About the role

Salus Group is a forward-thinking, rapidly growing organisation at the forefront of innovation. They are seeking an experienced, versatile and strategic General Counsel to join their Executive Leadership Team.

Based at Ardmore Airport in South Auckland, you will oversee all legal matters globally for the Salus Group, managing legal, commercial, and regulatory risks while supporting the business’s growth strategies. As a trusted senior advisor and leader, you will work collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to review and negotiate contracts, oversee disputes, and implement risk mitigation strategies. 

Your commitment to the provision of timely, pragmatic, high quality legal advice and commitment in ongoing business improvement will ensure you are a trusted member of this cohesive team as you anticipate legal risks and identify opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and implement Salus Group’s strategy.
  • Lead and advise on commercial contracts, legal compliance, risk management, and corporate governance.
  • Manage the company’s insurance program, privacy compliance, and statutory obligations.
  • Oversee the contract management system (Contract Eagle) and collaborate with external legal advisors.
  • Provide expert legal advice to departments including People & Capability, Safety & Compliance.
  • Design and implement business process improvements and efficiencies.

This is a full-time position with flexibility available.

What we’re looking for

  • A senior lawyer with at least 8 years PQE, ideally including broad in-house legal experience managing commercial, legal, and regulatory risks
  • Admitted to practice in New Zealand with a current practising certificate
  • Proven ability to manage legal risk, negotiate contracts, and work with senior leadership teams
  • Aviation, transport, logistics, or asset management industries experience preferred
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and offer strategic legal advice with strong business acumen
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiation, communication, and relationship-building with internal and external stakeholders.
