Te Tumu Paeroa is an independent professional trustee organisation that assists the Māori Trustee to carry out its statutory roles, functions and responsibilities, and thereby protects and enhances Māori land – for now and generations to come.
As a Corporate Lawyer (Property) in Te Tumu Paeroa’s legal team, you will identify and manage legal risks, and provide high-quality legal advice across a range of areas including Māori land law, trusts law, estates, landlord and tenant, conveyancing, general property, commercial and contract, resource management, legislative compliance, and opinions, as well as litigation and dispute management including appearances as counsel.
Te Tumu Paeroa’s legal team is small and collegial, and provides legal support and advice to the wider Te Tumu Paeroa whānau. The work is varied, dynamic and fast-paced, and provides the opportunity to build on and develop your legal skills across a range of disciplines in a great environment.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Two to four years post-admission experience, gained in-house or in private practice
- A current NZLS practising certificate
- Proven experience in the following areas of law: landlord and tenant, conveyancing and general property
- Preferably experience in one or more of the following areas: Māori land law, trusts law, estates law, commercial and contract law, or litigation and dispute management
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Outstanding judgement and attention to detail and
- An affinity and respect for tikanga Māori
This role is based in Te Tumu Paeroa’s head office in Wellington and will require travel from time-to-time.
