Chief Counsel - Seequent - Christchurch

Chief Counsel – impacting the world for good. A leadership role in a unique kiwi global success story.

It is extremely rare to find a senior legal leadership role in Canterbury that operates on a global scale. This is your chance to join and influence one of New Zealand’s most exciting and progressive tech companies.

Seequent is a world leading, multi-award winning software company in the field of geoscience. It delivers high impact software to drive decision making in the fields of mineral resources, renewable energy, infrastructure and water. With an HQ in Canterbury, Seequent has over 700 staff world wide and customers in 120 countries.

Seequent was acquired by Bentley Systems (BSY) in 2021, and as a standalone business unit is tasked with developing technologies that transform industries at scale. Ultimately, we are helping customers understand the underground.

The Chief Counsel is a leadership role pivotal to our success, and a very rare and unique opportunity in New Zealand. Formally reporting into the Bentley Group legal team in the US, it is embedded with and committed to the Seequent business and is a key role on the Seequent executive team.

The role spans the entire Seequent business, integrated into all aspects of business strategy, planning and operations. The Seequent executive and senior leadership team will look to the Chief Counsel to provide commercial and contractual information, advice, and direction. Information that will not only keep the business on the straight and narrow but will provide the base for continuing rapid expansion.

Fundamentally commercial and international in experience and orientation, the Chief Counsel will lead a highly talented inhouse team of four all based in Christchurch, whilst working with and across a wide range of domain specialists in the group legal team.

The role will be based in Christchurch to facilitate maximum collaboration with the executive team based in New Zealand.
