Solicitor - Wellington
NZQA's Chief Legal Advisor is looking for a multi-talented and client friendy part-time permanent (24 hours per week) solicitor to join the legal team.
This varied role will see you providing general advice on a wide array of issues that arise. These include compliance issues in the tertiary and secondary education sectors (in particular relating to the Education Act and NZQA rules made under it), bullet-proofing statutory decisions, evidence gathering and preparation, information (including privacy) and employment issues, and contract issues. In addition, you may need to issue prosecution instructions to Crown Solicitors. Other responsibilities will include helping business units with their proposals for legislation or rules, helping them to understand and apply the legislation and rules in practice, and drafting for statutory notices and contracts.
Your interpersonal skills and written skills need to be at the top end.
It is essential that you hold LLB and Law Professionals, and are immediately eligible to be issued a practising certificate by the New Zealand Law Society if you do not already hold one. You possess at least three years' experience in one or more legal roles, preferably having reasonable experience in an in-house environment. Regulatory experience is helpful.
