Wellington - Fixed Term until April 2019
WorkSafe New Zealand has a fixed term opportunity within its Legal Services Group (Wellington office) for a Solicitor. This will be for a fixed term commencing in May 2018 and ending in April 2019, covering a period of parental leave.
WorkSafe is a Crown entity responsible for administering and enforcing the Health and Safety at Work Act and other health and safety legislation. The Legal Services Group is responsible for providing effective legal services and advice to WorkSafe, including the Chief Executive and the Board.
You will be responsible for providing high quality, timely, accurate and practical legal advice in a dynamic context. A large part of this role will require you to act as counsel for the agency in respect of its litigation activities. In particular, this will involve appearances before the District Court, including prosecutions.
To be successful in this role you will ideally bring with you criminal litigation experience from within a similar complex environment. This is an opportunity to play a significant role in shaping an area of law that directly affects all New Zealanders. You will have a passion to make a difference in health and safety and bring with you the ability to build strong internal and external relationships. You must hold a current practising certificate with admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court.
