Senior Solicitor - Auckland Transport - Auckland

The Risk & Assurance team have recently gone through some changes and as a result we have a newly created role for a Senior Solicitor to join our small but high performing legal team.

The recent changes will ensure we are ready to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management and control processes across the organisation. We aim to build and nurture meaningful relationships with our stakeholders and focus on high quality outcomes for our customers, communities, partners, and employees.

The Role

To support the function of the Legal Services Team by providing high quality legal advice and support to board directors, executive leaders and staff across all levels of Auckland Transport (AT) with the support and oversight of General Counsel and Legal Counsel. 

 

Responsibilities

  • This role will primarily support the Legal Counsel (Public Law) in providing public law focused legal services to AT with the scope to also provide support across the wider Legal Services Team as needed
  • Provision of legal advice and assistance to staff across AT in relation to activities of AT
  • Helping to build public law resource within the team by building knowledge and providing support and mentoring to junior members of the team
  • Working with cross-functional teams on AT projects and providing legal advice and support throughout the progress of the projects
  • Providing legal support in relation to the development of new AT bylaws and reviewing existing AT bylaws
  • Liaising with external legal providers as necessary.

 About you

  • A positive and collaborative team player with the ability to work with all levels of the organisation
  • Confident and effective influencing skills
  • Capable of managing a busy and varied workload with minimal supervision

  

Skills and experience

  • A tertiary qualification in law and current practicing certificate (or eligibility to hold certificate).
  • Senior level legal experience, including a public law focus
  • Experience working with local or central government preferred
  • Previous inhouse legal experience would be beneficial
  • Demonstrated experience working in highly confidential environments
  • Experience with using databases and management systems, SAP and SharePoint preferable.
