The position

A rare opportunity has arisen at Unitec for an in-house, sole charge, Senior Legal Counsel to provide reliable, accurate and commercially focused legal advice.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will report to our Chief Financial Officer. You will be responsible for the provision of well-researched legal advice and recommendations to assist Unitec in executing its organisational objectives. It is anticipated that you will work closely and partner with a range of senior stakeholders including members of the Executive Leadership Team, Network Deans and General Managers with the aim of providing expert legal advice on a broad range of commercial and contract matters.

We will be looking to you to develop a proactive, relational culture where staff are encouraged to engage with you on a variety of legal matters. You will be a go-to for guidance and support. You will identify legal and reputational risks and ensure they are reported and mitigated. 

Your approach will be collaborative, practical and pragmatic.

Your experience

You are likely to be a Lawyer looking for a move to an exciting in-house opportunity, or perhaps you are currently operating as an in-house Director/Head of Legal. Either way, you will have significant experience in commercial and contract law with familiarity in property, leasing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements.

You need to be able to manage and influence people across our organisation through fantastic people skills and values-based leadership.
