Senior Employment Relations Specialist - Wellington
Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.
Our team of three provides employment relations advice to senior managers and the wider HR team. We are an interesting organisation to work for from an ER point of view - we are a 24/7 organisation with offices and stations around the country. We have a mix of uniformed and non-uniformed staff, paid and volunteers and three collective employment agreements.
This role is a great mix between operational and strategic ER, where you'll have a real opportunity to develop workplace relations initiatives that make a difference. You'll need to enjoy coaching others and have experience developing and delivering training. It goes without saying you'll be professional and confident, with strong employment law and legislation knowledge.

- disciplinary issues, investigations and mediations
- case management
- advising senior management and HR colleagues
- employment legislation
- advocacy and representation
- coaching and mentoring others
- collective bargaining
- strategic ER.
You'll also need to have:
- excellent writing skills, and able to turn technical concepts into plain English
- strong judgement and experience adapting advice to different situations
- the ability to travel and work outside office hours from time to time.
The salary range for this role is $ 108,038.40 to $127,104. For permanent staff we match KiwiSaver contributions up to 6% and we provide income protection and life insurance for those contributing to KiwiSaver.
