About Us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) is the strategic infrastructure manager for the Ministry of Education.  EIS manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of over 2,100 primary and secondary schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $17.2 billion. EIS undertakes around 3,000 projects per annum at a cost of approximately $800m. 

EIS has a significant pipeline of on-going construction work and is a leading entity in its involvement with the construction industry, infrastructure development and construction litigation in New Zealand.  EIS also leads a programme of advanced construction contract automation and strives to drive efficiency in its contracting processes.

 

About the role

The Senior Construction Solicitor role sits within EIS Legal and services multiple business units within EIS including Capital Works and Procurement.  You will play an integral role advising on legal issues on nationwide construction projects with a focus on major works and complex commercial contracting.

About you

You will be experienced, confident and agile and work with the EIS Legal Director and team to support the future pipeline of infrastructure works and the Ministry's role in the construction industry. 

To be successful in this role, you need to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Current practicing certificate and at least 5 years PQE
  • Extensive Experience in construction law and contracts, with expertise in panel agreements, early contractor involvement agreements, NZS and CCCS contracts
  • Ability to assess legal risk and balance with Crown objectives
  • Strong analytical, logical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a diverse group
  • Strong advisory capability, with effective written and verbal communication skills.
