Principal Privacy Officer - Wellington
Wellington City Council deals with the personal data of 1700 employees and 200,000+ residents and business people in the city, and we aim to 'up our maturity' - to operate with the highest standards of management of personal data across our business practice and with our trusted customers.
We're seeking an expert in the application of privacy legislation, who can demonstrate sound experience in building on organisational maturity and implementing our privacy programme. We also need the right individual who understands the respectful management of personal information and the use of technology to help us work smarter with our customers and visitors to Wellington.
You'll understand how new technology can affect privacy, and will be responsible for assessing the privacy impact of organisational transformation projects. You'll develop and lead training for Wellington City Council staff, so that they understand and can apply privacy principles effectively in their day-to-day work.
You'll also undertake investigations where a breach of privacy is alleged, and hold the position of Privacy Officer for the Council. You'll model, encourage and support members of the organisation to challenge the way things are usually done, and seek and implement new and innovative solutions to privacy challenges. We also want someone with the 'x-factor' who can work in a small dynamic team and thrives on change and brings fresh ideas.
A legal qualification, and/or extensive relevant experience in the application of privacy legislation is essential. You'll need exceptional relationship building skills to order to influence stakeholders, and to effectively champion privacy. Highly effective problem-solving and planning skills, even in the face of high levels of ambiguity, will be critical for your success.
