ILANZ, In-House Lawyers Association of New Zealand

Legal Counsel (Property) - Auckland

  • 12 months’ contract role
  • Rare in-house property opportunity
  • CBD Auckland

Here is a rare opportunity for a talented property lawyer to join the in-house legal team of this well-established, New Zealand based property and development organisation to cover a team member’s parental leave.  Our client has a successful track record of delivering significant and diverse residential and commercial developments in locations across New Zealand.

Reporting to the General Counsel, and working as part of a highly collegial and supportive legal team, you will be involved in a broad range of legal matters relating to property development projects and proposals.  You will assist the team in providing legal advice at all stages of the property transaction cycle from the initial due diligence through to the settlement and subsequent development and construction phase.  There is also the opportunity to broaden your experience in other legal areas including corporate, commercial, compliance and environmental law.

This role offers plenty of variety in both internal and external working relationships.  The appointee will enjoy interactions at all levels of the business working with experts in areas of planning, strategy, finance, marketing, sales & leasing and property management.  You will also work closely with external legal advisors, contractors and local authorities to achieve successful outcomes for the business.

This is a great role for a self-motivated and confident lawyer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in general property law matters.  Some expertise in areas including property subdivisions, commercial leasing, construction contracts and/or environmental and planning would be welcomed but is not essential.  Flexibility around working hours is available.

On a personal level, we are seeking a proactive and positive individual who is team focused and able to establish successful working relationships and translate legal risk into business terms.

This 12 months’ contract position offers a highly appealing and rare opportunity for a skilled property lawyer to gain first rate in-house experience in a dynamic commercial business and within a collegial and supportive team environment.
