In this role you will work closely with the Chief Legal Counsel New Zealand and the other members of the established Legal Team. As Legal Counsel and/or Senior Legal Counsel (depending on experience and skills levels), you will be required to work collaboratively in a team focused environment with a wide range of people (including the senior executive team) to assist in providing commercially focused legal advice right across the Downer New Zealand business. The legal team advises on a wide range of legal and commercial issues – including front end contractual work (client tender reviews, supply and procurement contracts), joint ventures & alliances, and also manages disputes, litigation and regulatory issues that impact the business.

This role requires a candidate with first rate technical and interpersonal skills. Ideally you will have at least 6-7 years PQE with some experience of front end or back end construction law. Those candidates who have already time spent in-house (including secondment) and who are able to handle multiple competing demands in a fast paced and constantly changing business environment will be at real advantage. The role is full time and head office based, but you may be required to or able to work form different offices from time to time.

We are seeking applications from experienced legal professionals with a minimum of six years practicing experience. You will have experience in commercial and company law, ideally with expertise in civil construction and contracts. Of particular interest to us will be your solution focused approach in managing issues, commercial acumen and self-motivation to achieve great outcomes for the business. Naturally you will be a flexible team player with an ability to work at a fast pace and manage multiple issues successfully.
