Legal Counsel - C3 Limited - Tauranga

Employing over 1200 staff in 13 locations across New Zealand, C3 is a market leader in the supply and logistics sector, providing port logistics and cargo handling to a broad range of customers. C3 is a New Zealand Company, headquartered in Tauranga and part of the LINX Cargo Care Group (LINX CCG), majority owned by Brookfield Infrastructure.

Located at C3’s harbourside office in Tauranga, an experienced Legal Counsel is required to support and provide advice to all facets of C3’s New Zealand operations, including Pedersen. This role is required to provide 12-month parental leave cover. This is an exciting opportunity to provide local legal support to C3 NZ, while drawing on the wider support and guidance of the LINX CCG Legal team based in Australia.

The Legal Counsel will be responsible for managing the business legal risk profile by providing high quality, timely, independent legal advice that meets the strategic objectives of the business. We are seeking someone who has a collaborative approach to working with our business and can provide solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the business to manage their legal risk profile by working with the wider legal team to provide high quality, timely and independent legal advice
  • Act as a trusted legal SME and advisor to our business leaders.
  • Providing legal support and guidance for the business, including the review, negotiation and drafting of a wide range of new and renewed commercial agreements
  • Proactively identifying and providing a balanced and objective view of the risks to the business and advise on strategies for minimising or eliminating risks. 
  • Together with the LINX CCG Legal team help further develop the compliance framework
  • Proactively keeping abreast of changes in law and relevant regulatory requirements.

We are looking for:

You will have solid experience in general corporate, commercial law or litigation with a proven ability to provide commercially focused legal support.

  • 5+ years’ PQE as a minimum
  • New Zealand LLB and current practising certificate
  • Proven experience working in a similar in-house role
  • Independence and self-motivation
  • Resilient and comfortable dealing with a diverse range of challenges and opportunities
  • Strong relationship building skills (both with external customers and internal stakeholders)
  • Sound working knowledge of contract fundamentals, with the ability to draft and review contracts
  • Demonstrated experience in developing compliance frameworks
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills
