Appeals Officer - Auckland / Wellington
- Auckland or Wellington
The Ministry operates a shared legal service that advises both the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki. Together the MSD and Oranga Tamariki are core agencies in the social sector, improving the wellbeing of over one million New Zealanders – children and young people, working age people, older people and in turn building families, whanau and communities.
An opportunity has arisen to recruit an Appeals Officer to become part of the MSD and Oranga Tamariki Shared Legal Service team. This will be an exciting next step in your career, where you get to make a real difference.
This position primarily focuses on appeals against the decisions of the Ministry of Social Development’s frontline staff to the Social Security Appeal Authority and Student Allowance Appeal Authority, including providing accurate, timely and properly researched reports to the Authority and representing the Ministry as an advocate.
To succeed in the role you will need to be pragmatic, solution focused, and show initiative and judgement. An ability to develop and maintain successful client relationships is essential. Front line experience and familiarity with Service Delivery processes and computer systems would be an advantage, as would experience in preparing reports for, and making written submissions to, independent judicial bodies and internal stakeholders.
In return we can offer a variety of challenging work in a busy, high performing team, and mentoring from senior staff.
