I’m penning this from the ‘sunny’ UK where I am visiting my family. The sun here comes in the form of rain, 13 degree temps and grey skies…wonder why I relocated to NZ?

I have been meeting with ILANZ members who are very interested in contributing towards our strategic goal to introduce some induction training for those new to in-house and some mid-career training. Watch this space or my blog for more info.

I spoke with one our members, Sarah Taylor, in early August on mental health and wellness. We, along with many other contributors on the day all agree that keeping healthy and fit is not just centred around your waistline. Our mind space needs a good dose of attention too. It’s good to talk about your own experiences (always makes me feel better!) and also to check in with your colleagues, especially if you notice something is a bit off or different with them. Hope you’re all keeping well just now. Check out my next blog, coming Monday 3 September if you want to read more about this topic.

In other news, The NZLS Gender Equality Charter has been adopted by 65 legal workplaces across the country since its launch at Parliament in April. I am very pleased to report that the following in-house teams have signed up to the Charter:

  • Auckland Community Law Centre
  • Auckland Council
  • Contact Energy
  • Hawkes Bay Community Law Centre
  • Ministry for Primary Industries
  • NZ Superfund
  • Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand Inc

You will find some more information on the charter, including a number of relevant resources in this edition of the Insider.

Till next month,
