Here’s an outstanding opportunity for a senior legal professional to lead governance strategy and legal advisory in a complex, high-impact environment for a recognised market leader.
About the role
Our client is seeking a senior legal professional to take the lead on governance strategy, company secretariat functions, and high-level legal advisory matters as part of a collegial and collaborative legal team.
Based in Auckland CBD and reporting to the General Counsel, this position leads the delivery of best practice governance and company secretarial support across multiple entities. In this visible and trusted leadership role, you’ll:
- Provide high-quality governance and legal advice to Boards and Committees
- Develop and maintain an effective corporate governance framework aligned with best practice and regulatory requirements
- Manage company secretariat functions including statutory compliance, Board documentation, and regulatory filings
- Support the General Counsel on legal risk management and broader in-house legal matters
- Build trusted relationships with the Board, Executive Leadership, and key external stakeholders
This is a pivotal role for a professional who thrives at the intersection of law, governance, and strategy.
About you
You’ll be a senior lawyer with proven experience advising at Board level, supported by a strong grounding in governance and company secretarial functions.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- A current New Zealand practising certificate and 10+ years’ experience across private practice and/or in-house roles
- Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance, compliance, and statutory obligations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of polished Board papers and reports
- The ability to manage legal risk while supporting strategic and commercial decision-making
- A collaborative, pragmatic style and the confidence to build credibility at all levels
- Experience in charitable trust, healthcare, or other regulated environments will be advantageous. Membership of professional governance or secretariat bodies (e.g. CSNZ) is desirable but not essential.
